Potty Training Boys

Potty training boys can be quite the experience.

It’s not always fun (or even easy) to potty train boys, but it does make for some interesting memories. It isn’t that it’s necessarily much easier to potty train girls than to teach boys, but that their toilet training does come with a few additional angles to consider. Namely  timing, aim and the finish.

Potty Training Boys And Timing

While making it to the bathroom on time is essential, when it comes to boys, there’s also the exact timing of events to worry about. With girls, sitting is the only option. Boys must choose between sitting or standing and it is important to know the difference between what happens with each position.

There are also technical aspects with potty training boys, such as making sure you are holding on so you don’t re-enact a scene from a cartoon with a fire hose and making sure your pants stay clear of the spray. Timing is key when it comes to potty training boys. Make sure you keep all the steps in the right order and your little guy will remain frustration free through the potty training process.

Potty Training Boys And Aim

There has rarely been a boy to draw breath who didn’t love a little target practice. When toilet training boys, you can move the targets from the floor, the cat, or the newborn baby, and drop them in the potty! When first training, try laying a sheet of toilet paper on the surface of the water. This provides a large area and kids can get used to the control as the paper moves around the potty.

Cheerios work well for more advanced potty trainers. Trying to keep them under for a lengthy period of time becomes a game and requires more hand-eye coordination. Being a boy is fun, so why not translate that fun into potty training? It will make your life much easier and your little man will love to see the look on his face when he’s beaming with his accomplishment.

Potty Training Boys and The BIG Finish

While the start and middle are important parts of the potty training process, there’s nothing more important than the grand finale. Those last few dribbles can be troublesome, and cause a fit of laughter if seen bleeding through around on a pair of pants.

There is a series of steps, checkpoints if you will, to go through upon finishing.

Make sure the dribbles are taken care of (as mentioned above), then button and zip. Once that’s accomplished, make sure you keep the toilet lid down. You don’t know who is going to need to go potty next, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry. It’s always important to flush. You never want to leave any unexpected presents for the next person. When finished, be sure to wash your hands it is the manly thing to do.

Boys can be a ton of fun to potty train, as long as you approach it with the right frame of mind. There seem to be so many steps, rules and things to remember – it can get a big confusing. It helps to make a game out of the steps, or something easy to remember. Just keep in mind, potty training is a process and make sure to have as much fun as you can to make your memories as rich as possible.

You can do it, we know you can!
