Unfortunately, many parents don’t try to find resources to help potty training until they have already failed by using their own methods. Potty training is a tenuous time in the relationship between parent and child, and getting all the information you can ahead of time will things go a lot more smoothly.

You can help potty training go easier by taking your time. Stop putting pressure on your child and yourself to get it done as quickly as possible. The truth is that the more pressure you put on each of you, the less likely you will succeed. There are ways that you can help potty training actually be fun and a bonding experience between parent and child, and that is what you should be striving for.

Another way to ensure that your potty training goes as well as possible is to not compare your child to any other, even your previous children. Every child decides, on his or her own, when it is time to start potty training. They will begin to give you signs that you should be looking out for. If your child starts talking about being a “big boy” or “big girl” and using the toilet like an older brother or sister does, then you know that the process has captured their interest.

They should also be physically capable of holding their urine, of being able to pull up and pull down their pants, and to understand the feeling that accompanies going to the bathroom. The other thing that is absolutely essential is that they should be able to understand commands and be able to express to you that they have to go. Without all of these developmental milestones, it will be too early – so take your time and you will find that it is easier than you think.

Perhaps one of the essential things to master is potty training toddlers. However, there are more and more parents who are being faced with this dilemma every day, and not only can it test your patience, but it can also be hard to master, as a child will not understand what you are trying to do with them. It’s a new adjustment for both children and parents, and cleaning up accidents and smelly messes is not fun at all. Your child may be one of the many that throws tantrums and refuses to go number 2 but will have no issue with going number 1.

One of the many things you can do is to make up a reward sheet for your child. This doesn’t have to be hard and can simply mean taking a large piece of paper and making squares for stickers to be placed. This can be encouragement for your child and also helps them to feel like they are being rewarded for a job well done.

You can also try to reinforce to your child that going to the potty is the only method. When you are thinking of potty training your toddler, tell them that they should use the toilet and tell them that that is where they go. Show them the toilet and maybe take them when you go. Learn their signs of when they have to go and try to catch them before they go in their pants.

Potty training toddlers can be easy if you know the proper steps to take, and when you are ready to start, know that you should never pressure them too much. Applying too much pressure to them will be overwhelming and will only make it take that much longer than if you were to go at their pace. Every time they do go, make sure you congratulate them and give them that high five as well.

While your child is in diapers, there is a loving, bonding relationship, but once you begin to reach the age of potty training, a certain adversarial relationship begins to build up. You want your child out of diapers, and they may not be ready yet. Children and potty training is a difficult time for both child and parent and one that requires a great deal of patience and as much knowledge as you can find.

Perhaps the first key to determining if your child is ready for potty training is if they are showing interest in it. Do they talk about going to the bathroom? Can they recognize when they have done it or better yet, when they are about to? This intimate understanding of the feelings in their own body is the key to successful potty training.

Children and potty training both work on their own schedules and just because you had one kid who was easily potty trained certainly does not guarantee that the next time around will be easy, too. You should also not be in competition with the other kids in your neighborhood or your family. By putting this kind of pressure on yourself and your child, you will only be doomed to fail.

Remember that children and toilet teaching both take time and need to be cooperatively worked on, at a leisurely pace. There is no hurry, despite the fact that you may be sick and tired of changing diapers. By taking your time and starting the potty teaching process at the right time, you will have a far more successful outcome and begin to develop a child who is independent and full of self-confidence. By starting too early, you will only make them feel like a failure, you will get frustrated, and it will not help build a relationship between the two of you.

Is potty training for girls different from that of boys? You might think gender does not play a role in toilet training, but the truth is that it does. Address gender-specific needs so you can get your little girl into clean pants the soonest. Here are a few tips to get you started.

1. Don’t Let Your Daughter Wear a Skirt or a Dress – You’re probably thinking not having pants to pull down makes training easier, but you’re wrong. In reality, skirts and dresses are difficult to hold in both the front and the back. Moreover, skirts usually droop in the potty, thus frustrating your toddler who pottied correctly but ended up with wet clothes nonetheless.

Leggings and tights should be avoided, too—it’s difficult for children to pull them down.

2. Teach Correct Potty Posture – When it comes to potty training for girls, you may think urine spray isn’t a problem, but the fact of the matter is that girls have this problem, too. It’s because girls sit on the potty with the pelvis tilting forward. Teach your daughter to sit straight, with her knees together and her bottoms tucked underneath her.

3. Demonstrate How to Wipe – One of the most important differences between potty training for girls and boys is that girls are more prone to UTI or urinary tract infections. Show your daughter how to wipe after bowel movements. Wiping direction should always be from the front to the back.

Potty training for girls isn’t really all that difficult. The good news is that girls catch on quickly, so getting your daughter to learn new skills should be relatively easier. Dress her right, teach her correct potty posture, show her how to wipe from front to back, and you’re well on your way to getting your daughter toilet-trained!

A potty training chart can be used for helping your child learn to go to the bathroom rather than going in their pants. It can also help them see how well they are doing at going to the bathroom, and they are rather simple to make. You can make them as easy or as complex as you want, but the key is to make it short and sweet and to the point. This way, your child can put the stickers on the chart by themselves.

For parents everywhere, potty training your child can be a test and can be frustrating at the same time. Cleaning up stinky and wet messes may not be your cup of tea, but the more you are consistent with potty training, the better off you and your child will be, as they will adjust over time.

Making potty training charts is easy and can be made from a calendar or even by getting a large poster board and making your own chart with boxes. That way, whenever your child goes, they can put a sticker up in the box to see their progress. Seeing the stickers accumulate will help encourage your child even more.

Children love to use facial expressions to show how they are feeling, and therefore another thing to do is to learn and study them. By understanding their signals and what they are expressing, you are going to be able to time when they have to go. If you can catch your child and get them to the bathroom before they go, this will obviously be beneficial but will also allow them to see that they go in the bathroom and not anywhere else.

No matter what you do as far as a potty training chart goes, it’s going to give results for your child and you to see, and some parents even give their child a larger reward at the end of filling up the chart.

Don’t be frustrated. Potty training regression is more common than you think. What causes it? More often than not, the culprit is emotional upset. It could be a new baby or a new room. It could be a recent divorce or maybe even a change of teachers in daycare. Whatever caused the regression, the best thing that you can do is to help your child relax and for you to stay positive and attentive as you reinforce toilet training. Here are a few other tips that will come handy.

1. Do Not Make Your Child Wear Diapers – It’s better for you to persist and take a few wet pants in stride than to undo all your toilet training efforts by going back to square one. Remember that you worked so hard to wean your child off diapers; now is not the time to undo all that hard work.

2. Do Not Scold Your Child – Potty training regression is caused by emotional upset. Scolding will only add to your child’s stress levels.

3. Do Not Hold Back on Praise – Every time your child uses the potty successfully, be generous with your praise. Praise is a good motivator. It gives children the push they need to want to succeed in their toilet training.

4. Pay Attention to Patterns – Do these potty accidents follow a certain timing? Once you see a pattern emerge, you can encourage your child to go potty before it is too late.

5. Re-introduce the Star Chart – Remember that star chart you used in teaching your child to potty in the right place and at the right time? Every time your child uses the potty successfully, put a star on the chart and give your child a treat. Well, now is a good time to whip it out! Star charts keep things interesting for your child. At the same time, it makes the process fun and helps your child relax.

When it comes to potty training regression, positive reinforcement is the only way to go. Be patient and supportive, and you can get your child back to clean pants
not long after.

It does not have to be this way. There are actually some great ways that will help the process go smoother. If you take the time to learn some of these tips for potty training, you will be able to ensure that your toddler is using the potty before you know it!

First of all, you will want to make sure that your child is ready for potty training before you get started. The best ways to tell if they are ready are to make sure that they are verbal. If they can talk and let you know that they need to go, then they are probably ready. You will also want to make sure that they are semi self-sufficient when it comes to dressing and undressing so that they will be able to go to the bathroom on their own. You will also need to make sure that he or she is able to go a while without wetting their diapers. This will let you know if they are ready.

Once you know that they are ready, you will want to get rid of diapers once and for all. If you go back and forth it can be confusing for them. The best thing to do is just to get some training pants that will help them to feel when they are wet. This may make a mess at first, but it is the only way to go about it.

After you have gotten rid of the diapers, you will need to take your child to the bathroom frequently so that they can get used to the toilet. It is a great way to introduce them to it and make sure that they know where it is in case they need to go. By using these tips for potty training, you are sure to have your child trained in no time!

If you are just starting out on the journey of child potty training, you may be reading some of the tips and advice people offer and trying to decide which one you want to put to use with your own child. If you have already started child potty training, you may be banging your head against the wall because the strategy you are using just isn’t working.

It is important to keep in mind that these little people we love so much are developing and changing at a rapid pace. Just think about all of the ways they are different now than they were even two or three months ago!

With this in mind, it stands to reason that using just one strategy on a highly complex and rapidly changing individual likely isn’t going to be enough. Plus, this little person certainly has different moods and mindsets that change just as the days change, and a strategy that got your youngster to “go” in the potty yesterday may not work today.

The parents who achieve potty training success without frustration and headache are those who can really look inside the mind of their little one and figure out what strategies will work on any given day.

So often, parents get frustrated with their child because he or she appears to be backtracking or was showing progress and then stopped. The fact is that children of this age are so complex and change so rapidly that it is almost unheard for a parent to apply one single principle or strategy to child potty training and enjoy success.

Parents will experience far less frustration when they notice the signs in their child that a different strategy is going to be needed and make those adjustments as soon as possible. This serves to keep you as well as your child from getting stressed out and upset with the process.

One of the most difficult aspects of boy’s potty training is getting the child to urinate from a standing position, and for this to be done in such a way that doesn’t require you to get out a bottle of bathroom cleaner after each trip to the toilet. Boys are notorious for their poor aim, and some boys never truly learn the fine art of great aim, which results in some poor toilet habits later in their adult lives, too. As a conscientious parent, however, you certainly want to make every effort to help your child with this.

With boy’s potty training, there are a few things that you can do to help your child improve in this area. The problem may be coming from physical issues, such as a height issue that prevents the child from being able to easily aim down into the toilet.

If this is the case, simply putting a step stool next to the toilet will work wonders. For other kids, the problem is a lack of concentration and focus. Let’s face it; boys are not the most focused of the genders, and their little minds wander all over the place. Plus, they certainly love to fidget and move about, and it can be hard for them to stand still for the minute or two it takes to “go” in the toilet.

The result is that their urine stream wanders about just as their eyes and bodies do. You can get around this issue by giving the child something to aim at in the toilet. There are special things you can buy that go into the toilet and float on the surface, or you can save yourself some money and drop a few Cheerios-style pieces of cereal into the toilet. The child’s goal would be to hit each of the pieces of cereal you drop in before he quits going.

Boy’s potty training does have some unique challenges, but if you think about the problem and spend time trying to find a solution that works well with how your child thinks and acts, you will certainly find a great solution.

For most parents, training a child can be very challenging. This is because the children need you to be patient with them. It is not always a concept that all children understand right away. Take the time to follow these steps when you are getting ready to train your child and you will have a child that will begin to use the toilet quickly and easily – in turn saving you a lot of grief and headaches!

Introductions

The first tip that you should follow is to introduce them to the toilet. By doing this, you will allow them to sit on the toilet so they can understand that it is normal. It will be very new to them, so they will need a little reassurance that it is what they are supposed to do. You will also want to talk with them about the words that they will need to use when they need to go. This will help you both when it comes to communication and readiness.

Ensure They Are Ready

The next thing that is very important, and cannot be stressed enough, is to make sure that the child is ready to be trained. Not all children are going to be ready at the same time, and it is something that you will need to gauge in order to make sure that your child is ready. Speaking is a must for toilet training – as you will need to have them let you know when they need to go.

The biggest of the tips on potty training is to be consistent with your toddler. If you are not consistent, then they will go back and forth with using the potty. This is not good for you or the child.
